    Java support for iPod Touch

    By admin | November 20, 2007

As of now there is no support for java applications on iPod touch or iPhone that would make it able run on the devices, though according to some that may be about to change. An official at Sun Microsystems said hes that Java is going to be ported for the iPod touch and iPhone. He said that Apple is planning to release an SDK for the iPhone in the 1st part 2008, and that would result in Java ME being created for the device.

What exactly would have to happen for Java to run on the iPod touch and be available to Safari? My interest stems from the fact that most Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard Vista which is what my university uses) require a modern Java VM.

If you have jailbroken your iPod touch, you have access to the entire file system so it must not be a simple matter of copying files from a “regular” version of MacOS X to a “mobile” version of MacOS X, correct?

Correct. The “regular” variant of MacOSX runs on powerpc and intel based processors. The iPod touch uses an arm processor. Thus you cannot just copy a jvm from a mac to the touch.

Yes, but if we use the MacOSX that runs on the powerpc, wont that have a typical interference? Like a lot of people say, Java can only do so much. If they cram it all into one system, it will lack in other things, like causing the battery to lower even faster than it already does (just watching youtube.)
